Excerpt 4 page 57 (translated 30/08/06)

be a substantial leap to 2001, the tail end of a period that the house fell into serious neglect. save for a sickly caretaker the house has been abandoned. you will find yourself on the front drive in the middle of the night. walk straight towards the solitary light that will be burning in an upstairs window. do not veer as the verge of the path is bordered with animal traps. do not be alarmed by the crunching underfoot; due to the untended undergrowth the drive will be swarming with snails.

when you reach the house you will hear a sizeable commotion within. if you pull aside the foliage that covers the face of the house and if you can see through the filthy windows, you will see frenetic movement. the house, although abandoned by humans, is full of horses. the animals are insane with hunger and claustrophobia so entry into the house is impossible. your task lies elsewhere.

to your right, you will see a car. like the house it is decaying and strangulated by brambles, so much so that the make and paintwork are not specifiable. open the boot. this will be easier than it looks as it has been left partially ajar. remove the canister of paraffin. now tear out the blank pages at the back of this book and stuff them into the canister nozzle. you should still have the matches from the third portal. light the pages and hurl the canister through the front window. the floor is covered with dried manure, newspaper and rotting furniture so the fire will move quickly.

go to the back of the house and wait. although the noise inside will be appalling, try and focus on the third floor windows. after half an hour the flames will have reached the caretaker's room on the top floor. his window will open and the caretaker will climb out onto the ledge whereupon he will have no option but to jump.

already weakened and riddled with disease, he will be dead on impact. go to his corpse and turn him onto his back. in his pyjama jacket pocket will be a small photo of a red door at the end of a brightly lit corridor. on the door will be a single rune. if you turn the photo over you will see a date written in ballpoint. aside from the Resurrection Passage, this is the single most important item on the tour. from this moment on, you must guard the photo fiercely. the lost contestants and religious extremists that prowl unchecked through this contest will kill you for it. deny all knowledge of the red door.

it is now extremely dangerous to be in such proximity to the house. make for the empty swimming pool behind the
